With the St. Louis Rams eliminated from the playoff picture, Sunday's melt down was indicative of a young team that still has a long way to go in building their championship foundation. The NFL’s leading rusher Adrian Peterson displayed his talents by rushing for 212 yards on 24 attempts against the Rams.
The Rams’ defense started out stout with a new look-- aligning three defensive tackles over the Vikings’ center and both guards—and held Peterson to minus three yards on his first five touches and bottled AD (Petersons nickname All Day) up in the first quarter yielding 8 carries for only 8 yards... read more

Before I dive into my picks for Week 10, I want to give thanks that the barrage of commercials from the election is all over!! Thank God, I was tired of the bantering and hammering of Democrats vs. Republicans on both the national and local level. Alabama and Oregon Head to Hostile Environments as They Try to Stay Perfect
No. 1 Alabama at No. 5 LSU- Les Miles said earlier this year that, “Death Valley is truly a place where opponents’ dreams go to die.” While I do acknowledge that a night game in Baton Rouge is arguably the toughest task for an opponent in all the land, I believe that the only dream that will be dying on Saturday night is LSU’s dreams of any title this year. I tip my fedora to Kevin Demoff, Jeff Fisher, Bruce Warwick and the entire organization for what has been a flawless trip across the pond to the UK (United Kingdom). I know a lot of you are asking, what’s the big deal? Several NFL franchises pack up and move every year to a training camp location within the states. This is a much greater challenge.
One of the challenges is the procurement of an aircraft which starts with a very lengthy bidding process which determines who actually wins the opportunity to work with the traveling team. It may come down to overall cost of the trip, jet fuel cost, size, TV’s on board, Wi-Fi, food service and much more... read more

As we head into Week 6, there are NFL storylines both on and off the field. The Commissioner affirmed the bounty suspensions of the four players ; Jonathan Vilma, Will Smith, Scott Fujita and Anthony Hargrove. The announcement really came as no big surprise, but caught the full attention of the NFLPA (Players Association) that gave an all hands on deck alarm, and is coming to the aid of their players in full support. The players had a 72 hour deadline to file an appeal and they did just that. Will the buck stop with the Commissioners desk or will the Federal Courts get involved with the process?

In a memorable weekend that will be hard to top for quite some time, nine top 25 teams absorbed a loss. The most eye-popping defeat of those defeats on Saturday happened in Raleigh where unranked North Carolina State shocked No.3 Florida State 17-16. Who would have thought the St. Louis Rams would be 3-0 at home and 2-0 in the NFC West Division as the youngest team in the NFL? My answer is Coach Fisher, his staff, Rams players in that locker room and the folks in the organization within those walls at Rams Park. While focused on their next opponent, the Miami Dolphins, they are very pleased with their current overall record but understand the challenges and the continued development needed to accomplish one of their 2012 season goals and that is to win the NFC West division.

Yes the NFL season’s first quarter is complete and in the books. Before you know it, teams worthy of post season play will be clinching their divisions and others battling for Wild Card weekend. The NFC West is a very intriguing division; just a few years ago the Seattle Seahawks represented the division in the playoffs with a subpar 7-9 record. That sent boos from fans coast to coast and a wave of laughter from their peers and a bucket full of comments from media pundits suggesting the NFL change the rules to not allow any team under a 8-8 record into the playoffs.

The Rams rookie place kicker Greg Zuerlein is off to a great start. The St. Louis Rams have made the first wave of cuts from 90-75 with WR Danario Alexander as the biggest name released. This hometown favorite struggled in 2010 & 2011 to stay on the field because of multiple injuries and the well documented left knee (five surgical procedures) which slowed down his overall development, not only in practice but on game day as well. Like you do before you eat a fat and juicy well grilled rib-eye steak, NFL teams are at the table and trimming the fat, or in this case, the 53 man roster. This time of year each team has an assigned individual (maybe the pro director, pro scout, scouting assistants or I’ve seen personnel interns) retrieve the player, or players, that the head coach has requested. During last week’s practice sessions I saw this young team start the bonding process that is needed in order for a group men to develop into a team. As I mentioned on the radio multiple times last week, the practices were more spirited than before and the sense of urgency was high. This game is the turning point of the preseason for several reasons. First, this is one of the most important decisions a head coach will make in preparing his team for the regular season. Each organization’s philosophy is different once you arrive at the threshold of the third preseason game. The fourth game is mainly for the veteran players that are on the bubble and those rookies and street free agents that are still trying to catch the eye of the coaching staff. Every NFL team works hard to build the back end of the roster during the offseason, in season and training camp. In 2012, the St. Louis Rams were extremely aggressive in free agency and they drafted players with a difference making skill set, huge upside and a chance to be immediate starters.

The NFL kicked off the preseason last night, and it was business as usual. Drew Brees picked apart the Arizona Cardinals’ defense as the Saints defeated the Cardinals, 17-10. For the players, these four games are the training grounds to fight for a spot on the 53 man roster. Like all corporations in America and around the world that are schedule-driven, the NFL is no different. And what a difference a year makes. The former second overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, who was picked to play left tackle to protect the quarterback’s blindside, moved to right tackle after his rookie season to make way for another young athletic tackle, Rodger Saffold. Perhaps more troubling for the Baylor product: a mounting injury history that has sent up many a red flag.
