Mississippi State secondary overwhelmed

OXFORD — It is difficult, and perhaps unfair, to put the onus of a win or loss on only one aspect of a football team.

But Mississippi State’s defensive secondary played a major role in each of the team’s eight wins and four losses during the 2012 season. And on Saturday night, with a chance to keep the Egg Bowl in Starkville for a fourth consecutive season, the secondary was a big reason Ole Miss was able to easily return the trophy to Oxford with a 41-24 win....

Mullen knows importance of Egg Bowl

STARKVILLE - Mississippi State will now close the regular season at Ole Miss in their annual Egg Bowl battle.

"Obviously this is the biggest game of the year for us," MSU coach Dan Mullen said. "It always is every year. A lot of these kids played each other while growing up. We have a lot of kids from Mississippi on our team that know how important this rivalry is and they grow up with it."

Unlike other rivalries throughout the country, the aura that comes along with the Egg Bowl will give both teams extra focus this week....
